Language is incredibly powerful, and the narratives we create using language can sometimes keep us stuck. Words like 'I,' 'us,' 'them,' and 'we' often distance us from how our inner selves connect to emotions. This is why I encourage my clients to start with observation—it fosters awareness and can offer choices for action. Understanding life as a process with stages allows us to give ourselves permission to lower our defenses and truly feel repressed emotions.
Though this can seem daunting or even trivial, we live in a fast-paced world where few take the time to validate each emotion. In my 20 years of experience working with adults in various forms of crisis—whether mental or circumstantial—as a mortician, magistrate, probation officer, and now a clinical social worker, I have learned that listening without judgment, offering challenges when necessary, and focusing on the present can heal deep wounds.
We all have the tools to heal ourselves. This belief is why I established Somos Wellness Counseling. Healing starts with us. We are wellness; you are wellness; I am wellness. I am ready to walk this journey with you, so you are not alone in discovering and overcoming your hidden barriers
